Career Highlights

  Virginia Beach, VA (1997 - Present)

Teaching Faculty.  Teaching Windows W2K, NT, Cicso, and Networking (MCSE/MCSA/CCNA/N+).  Over 80% of students are now certified MCSE.  Most are certified at graduation or within 2 weeks after graduation.

ConsultantMy most recent consulting task was a several-month effort to assist a small computer engineering business in obtaining their US Government 8a certification as a Small, disadvantaged business - and to obtain a DoD Secret facility clearance.  I am currently consulting for the US Navy in the Navy-Marine Corps Information (NMCI) systems Operational and acceptance tests.  This involves specific tasking from the COMOPTEVFOR sponsor via another small business.

 Virginia Beach, VA (1997 – 3/00)

Networking/Integration Engineer.  Deployment of major Windows NT-based networks.  Includes servers, routers, LAN and WAN technologies.  Configured standard and custom software, login scripts, policies, and replication.  Operate & manage a business-oriented Internet Service Provider (ISP).  Consult, configure, roll-out and troubleshoot MS Exchange Mail installations.  Configure, install, and manage approximately 25 routers.  Design and integrate networks with Windows 2000/NT, and Windows 95, and Unix.  All servers were managed remotely, in a high-availability, “lights-out” facility, located in Northern Virginia.

  Virginia Beach, VA (1983 - Present)

Principal Engineer / Outsource MIS Manager / Senior Systems Analyst / Senior Programmer

  ·    Managed 12 person technical staff plus varying numbers of vendor contract personnel, with full responsibility for Government management information systems.  Built contract from $3.8 million to over $18 million through engineering changes, equipment sales, and software maintenance.  Designed Engineering Change Proposals which saved $14 million for customer.  My company  received $6.65 million in windfall profits, while improving customer’s IS capabilities. Processed 10-15 delivery orders per year during 1991 - 1996, averaging over $2 million per year.  Realized a net profit of more than 20% per year.  Maintained 99.99% availability for 8 consecutive years with mission critical 24 x 7 x 365 world-wide network.  Selected to design, manage construction, and start-up a large multi-computer test laboratory.  Completed within 3 months.  On-time delivery allowed customer to avoid substantial penalties.  Designed, procured, and delivered a 600-user world-wide client-server UNIX Suite.  This project was cited as the finest system ever certified by the GAO.

  Virginia Beach, VA (1979 - 1983)

Senior Computer Systems Analyst / Aviation Systems MIS Manager / Systems Maintenance Manager

  ·    Recruited, trained, and managed 12 programmers in UNIVAC LASS assembler programming language.  Maintained over 1.5 million lines of assembler language programs.

  ·    Led a team of eight programmers in migrating all of the software from an IBM 4200 and HP 3000 onto a newly acquired Honeywell Level 64 DPS-320.  The source code was written in COBOL, RPG II, and FORTRAN.  Used IBM, HP, and Honeywell JCL.

  ·    Managed 20 engineers and technicians in the Norfolk and Richmond computer service/repair facilities.  Coverage was from the DELMARVA Peninsula to North Carolina, and as far west as Lynchburg.  Turned this losing division around to become very profitable.

  Lieutenant, United States Navy (1979)

  ·    Naval career included various assignments from Seaman Recruit to Senior Chief Aviation ASW Electronics Technician, followed by commissioning to rank of Lieutenant.  Advanced from E-1 to E-7 in seven years; was selected for E-8 in the 10th year of service; spot promoted to Lieutenant in 15 months.  Most duty assignments involved management and productivity of highly technical industrial repair and technical support facilities, including aircraft, ships, and complex electronic systems.  Management responsibilities involved 3-5 levels of subordinate managers and 40 to 300 people.  This usually included signature authority to release an aircraft/ship for flight/sea.
